It’s dawn on the morning after the night before. Around me, my new flatmates are yet to wake from their first-night Freshers’ slumbers. But I, in my own cosy corner of the vast Endcliffe student accommodation village, am awake and raring to go.
Today, in its own small and unmarked way, was for me the end of an era. After five years as its Editor, my final edition of InSpire, the church magazine of St Luke’s, Maidenhead, was published.

Today at noon, I found myself at White Waltham Airfield in Berkshire, preparing for take-off during an introductory flying lesson. Once in the skies, we passed over wide fields, busy road networks, and the ribboning Thames below. Still persists the childlike wonder of seeing from above the places one thinks one knows so well.
