Britain’s Got Talent 2010 Final – 5 June 2010

Tonight is the final of Britain’s Got Talent – the ITV TV show opened to anybody of any age, to give them a chance to show off their talent. There are several rounds, broadcast over roughly 2 months; around 6 weeks of auditions, a show where the semi-finalists are selected, and then one week of semi-finals (the first was on Monday), before the big live final tonight (Saturday, 5 June 2010).

In the semi-finals, the viewers are encouraged to phone in and vote for their favourite out of 8 acts. This act automatically goes through to the final, and the judges (Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan, and Simon Cowell) are then allowed to vote for their favourite out of the two runners up from the phone-in. This means that after each of the five semi-finals, 2 acts go through.

Tonight, then, these are the acts in the live final, fighting for your vote.

Britain’s Got Talent really can change lives. Think back, of course, to Susan Boyle. She was a church volunteer, who confessed she’s “never married or kissed” anyone. Following her audition’s broadcast, Su-Bo related videos were watched 100 million times. And yet she only came second compared to dance group Diversity, showing just how unpredictable and exciting the final can be. She released her album following the final, called I Dreamed A Dream, (after the song from Les Misérables she sung at her audition).
“The arrival of I Dreamed a Dream … marks the best opening week for a female artist’s debut album since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991.”
